A Bale Out Furnace is a stationary holding furnace designed to hold molten metal (usually aluminum) at a controlled temperature. Instead of tilting or pumping, molten metal is "bailed out" manually or with a ladle through the open top.
Key Features
Open-top design - Allows for ladle access to scoop/bail molten metal
Stationary furnace - No tilting-fixed in place
Refractory-lined - Keeps the molten metal at temperature with minimal heat loss
Gas or electric heating - Maintains molten state efficiently
Lid (optional) - May have a removable or swing-away lid to retain heat
Compact footprint - Good for small-to-medium foundries
Typical Applications
Aluminum die casting operations
Gravity and sand casting setups
Holding molten metal next to casting machines
Transfer stations between melting and pouring
Alloying or adding grain refiners before final casting
Advantages
Simple operation - just ladle in/out
Efficient temperature holding with tight control
Reduces oxidation and dross compared to open crucibles
